We are in communication with our environment constantly. We see things, we touch things. We smell them. We make them a part of our lives. But are we really paying attention to them?
In this project, we aim to make people be aware of materials around them, to think where they come from, what they are made of and how they influence us. Even just for a second to stop and take a moment to notice and think.
We desire to make people curious, for them to pay attention to how we sense materials around us. How we use our senses all the time and becauses it’s so natural we don’t even notice how much information they actually give, how many feelings/ associations they trigger and how different they can be from person to person.
What do you sense?
The final outcome of this project were books about different variations of bioplastic.
Different bioplastics included materials with different smells, structures and thicknesses.
For every material a research among people was made asking what they associated with the material they were holding in their hands. The collected opinions and keywords were printed in the book. So a new person who picks up the books will see what others associated with the material and takes a moment to think her(his relationship with the material. And so hopefully thinks about materials that surround him/her in everyday life as well.
